The JETRAY Automated Airframe Inspection Service works in tandem with major airlines, independent MRO facilities, military and government operators, leasing companies, and business jet operators by providing rapid NDI screening for airframe integrity at location or hanger based.
JETRAY Corporation holds US Patent #6,636,581 B2 for its Automated Airframe Inspection System and Method, which is the basis of our product architecture. This motion control system, consisting of two rugged robotic manipulators, is programmed in the field using a simple yet refined technique that captures the specific geometry of the aircraft and any areas of interest.
An operator drives the x-ray source with a control pendant to the beginning of the scan sequence. Then the slaved detector system updates its position automatically maintaining an optimum offset distance between the x-ray detector and source. Multiple points of interest are then connected into one scan sequence. This sequence of taught positions can be reused or mirrored on different portions of the aircraft, or on any similar model aircraft.
The unique automated capabilities of the system provide both incremental and continuous motion, depending on the imaging technique being used. For instance, incremental motion is suited for the overlapped frame-by-frame x-ray coverage, whereas ultrasound or thermography can utilize the smooth continuous motion capabilities. Stress points, defects, joint fatigue, crack, corrosion and delaminations can all be detected with any NDT head from multiple providers.
JETRAY is designed for safe operation around fragile aircraft surfaces and collision avoidance technologies are used throughout. Additionally, each manipulator fully counterbalances its payload, which permits the use of fractional horsepower motors on all axes of motion. If contact is made with the aircraft the system will simply stall. No damage will be incurred to the aircraft or the system.
This patented process is a revolutionary approach to NDT, and JETRAY Corporation is proud to be at the forefront of aviation safety, improving MRO efficiencies and capabilities worldwide.
